Context: Big Tech has a fundamental advantage in AI because of all the data they have available. I’ve always been curious if there’s a way for a “shared data layer” to finally allow startups to compete.
The challenge with crypto, though, is that fundamentally write transactions are costly while reads are free. If we want AI use cases to emerge, we essentially need to inverse that – we need writes to be free (to accumulate more data) while reads can be monetized.
For instance, if we want to create a decentralized Yelp, we don’t want users to have to weigh up “do I really want to spend money to leave this review?”. Instead, we want the applications built on top to subsidize those writes by paying for the network.
The closest I can think of is @graphprotocol in that they’re incentivizing participants to organize data that’s already on the blockchain to be more usable by app developers. It’s not however (afaik) lowering the cost for users & devs to put the data into the blockchain itself
Any pointers would be really appreciated!
